From here, we step away from medical diagnosis and pathophysiological explanation, and introduce one metaphor that expresses the perspective of Recalibration™: Foucault’s pendulum.

Nor is it to recommend viewing a pendulum as an observational method or treatment.
It is a metaphor for the idea of not continually chasing what moves outside, but returning attention to your own present position as the observer.

Foucault’s pendulum is an apparatus that visually demonstrates the Earth’s rotation.
The pendulum appears to swing back and forth in the same direction, but when observed from the rotating Earth,
the orientation of its swing plane appears to shift gradually over time.
The apparent rate of this shift depends on the latitude of the observation point.

One of the origins of Recalibration™ was the proponent’s experience, at age 11,
of seeing Foucault’s pendulum at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno, Tokyo.

The Observer Is Also Moving
Foucault’s pendulum shows not only the movement of the pendulum itself.
It also shows that the Earth beneath the observer’s feet is rotating.
We may think we are watching a moving object from a stationary position, but the observer is also moving.
What we see depends on where we are observing from.

Recalibration™ does not apply this physical phenomenon directly to human bodies or symptoms.

When we follow the movement of the pendulum, our attention naturally goes toward the moving weight.

It simply suggests pausing the continuous chase for a brief moment,
and quietly confirming where you are looking now and how your feet feel beneath you.

The Metaphor: “Seeing the Pivot in Front of You”
A physical pendulum has a literal pivot point suspended from the ceiling.
However, in Recalibration™, the phrase:

does not mean looking up at that ceiling pivot.
It means placing your gaze—without strain—on a point roughly at eye level when you face forward naturally.
At the same time, you confirm the sensation of your soles or heels touching the floor or ground.

Using these two cues, you quietly return attention to where you are now and how you feel your body.
The “pivot” here is not a specific anatomical point within the body.
Nor is it an external, absolutely unmoving point in the world.
It is a metaphor for confirming your present bodily sensations through your forward gaze and the grounding of your feet.
